We have recently installed Power Director on our network system, and have used this as a tool to introduce our students to film editing. The straightforward interface and intuitive method of editing has helped our students to quickly grasp the main concepts behind film editing. What has proved particularly useful is the use of wizards that can put a series of clips together in imaginative ways.
This has shown our students the possibilities that exist and they have embraced using these with enthusiasm. The program has also proved to be stable and fast.

The college has just installed this software on the system for use in the media area. What it
offers is speed, ease of use and versatility especially in relation to the capturing of a variety of
formats.
For the students, its use is very familiar and intuitive: useful effects, transitions etc. They quickly become engaged. They can be up and running with the video editing of their footage very quickly making it easier for them to create their own stories. The Magic Tools are really good for the students in that they can explore a range of editing techniques, modify them and use them as ‘out take’ evidence in planning prior to their final production. The PIP feature is extraordinarily useful in allowing them to layer their story.
For the staff, it offers the possibility of creating moving image teaching resources. The ability to capture with speed and ease DVD clips in particular, drop them on the timeline, edit them by adding text and audio to create interesting questions for students to respond to is a real bonus. It is so easy to do. No more ripping and editing in a range of software: it can all be done in this software. And we haven’t yet got to the audio editing!!
